Vibrato

OK, so how to I do it? Vibrato is one of those techniques that is hard to describe in words. You need to see and hear how it is done. So even though I am going to describe in words the motions that your arm and hand need to make, be sure and watch the videos. They show more than any words can describe.

Vibrato using your 1st finger

Put your first finger on the 3rd string, 7th fret. Then turn your hand to the side, so that the outer part of your first finger, closest to the biggest joint in you finger is resting on the neck of the guitar.

Vibrato is created in this case by rocking your hand and arm slightly, pulling the sting towards the floor. You are "bending" the sting, then releasing it at a constant rate. Pulling towards the floor lets you take advantage of gravity and the weight of your hand and arm. Pivot your hand from the point on your 1st finger were you are resting on the neck of the guitar..

Here is the basic hand and arm movement used for vibrato, away from the guitar.

Of course you can apply this same hand and arm movement to your other fingers.
