As a rock and blues player it’s important to have an arsenal of lead guitar licks you can call upon, chain together and mutate as you are creating your own guitar solos. In this video guitar lesson I’m going to show you a cool repeating guitar lick that comes out of a minor pentatonic scale.

Guitar Lick Tablature
In the video guitar lesson I’m demonstrating the link coming out of a D Minor Pentatonic Scale. You are going to bend the 2nd string 13th fret up a whole step…which in this case you are bending up to a D note.
The very next note you play on the 1st string 10th fret is also a D note. So if you want to play this guitar lick in a different key, use that note on the 1st string at your guide. Move it down 2 frets to the 8th fret, and this lick would be in the key of C. Then all that is left is a pull-off from the 13th fret to the 10th fret on the 2nd string.
For picking, try picking down on the notes on the 2nd string, and up on the one note on the 1st string.
Below is just taking the same idea and applying it to the notes of the D Minor Pentatonic Scale on the 2nd and 3rd strings.
D Minor Pentatonic Scale
Like I mentioned, this guitar lick comes out of a D Minor Pentatonic Scale. Below are a couple of different fingers for the D Minor Pentatonic Scale in the 10th position. The one on the right will be more common in the rock blues style of playing. Usually for a rock blues guitar hand position you want to keep your right hand thumb up on top of the neck for more leverage for your bends. Therefore with that hand position it’s a little more comfortable to use your 3rd finger on the notes on the 1st and 2nd strings instead of your 4th.
