Basic A Guitar Chord (A Major Chord)
For a basic A chord there are two different fingerings. Both are going to be useful in different situations. The first basic A major guitar chords uses 3 different fingers all on the 2nd fret. This can be a little difficult if you have large hands.

The next version of the basic A guitar chord uses your first finger to bar across the 4th, 3rd and 2nd strings.
You will want to bend back your first finger slightly at the first joint so that you can mute out the 1st string. Notice the X on the first string for the chord chart. It would be hard just to avoid strumming that 1st string, so you are going to touch it very lightly with your 1st finger and “mute” it.

Bend your first finger back slightly at the 1st joint
