Lesson & Article Submission Page

Welcome to the Cyberfret.com user lessons section. The name of the game here is to help others by sharing your knowledge. Please read this page carefully before continuing on to the submission form on the next page. Articles that do not follow the guidelines below will not be posted.

User Lesson Guidelines

Please be knowledgeable about your topic. If you have only been playing for a couple of months, please do not write about topics that are beyond your ability and knowledge level.

Please use proper grammar, check your spelling, and make your lesson neat in appearance. Do not use all upper case or all lower case words. Do not use Internet short hand words like....cuz (because), wud (would), u (you), etc. Do not use foul language.... keep it clean. Write your lesson in a word processor, or your email program so that you can use spell check. Then you can just copy and paste into the text entry window. Proofread your lesson. If you discover a problem after you have already submitted the lesson, contact me and I will fix it on my end. I would also suggest saving a copy to your computer just incase there is a problem with the submission.

Not all lessons will be approved. But if you have knowledge to share and you have followed the directions above, you should see the lesson listed within a couple of days....sometimes sooner.

Basic Lesson Formatting

If you are using tablature, or scale/chord grids, keep them even and neat. Please include all 6 strings in tablature examples.

Don't do this...

D:----------------6-7-9--------
A:---------5-7-9---------
E:---5-7-9-------

Instead, do this...

E:---------------------------
B:---------------------------
G:---------------------------
D:-----------------6-7-9-----
A:----------5-7-9------------
E:---5-7-9-------------------

Most basic formatting for the article will be handled automatically. What you see in the text entry window will be mostly how the final format will look, with a couple of exceptions which I will go over next. The lessons will all be displayed in a fixed width format so that all tablature examples will automatically look correct. The main exception will be spaces. If you push the space bar, you will insert one space. If you push the space bar 2 times, you will still only get one space. If you need to add more than one space write this...

For every time that you write that into the text entry space, the final format will contain an extra space.

If you were to type something like this into the text entry form.....

     G                   C
E:-------3-------3---|------0------0---
B:-------0-------0---|------1------1---
G:-------0-------0---|------0------0---
D:-------0-------0---|------2------2---
A:-------2-------2---|---3------3------
E:---3-------3-------|-----------------

The end result would look like the example below. Notice how the chords above the tab do not line up correctly.

G C
E:-------3-------3---|------0------0---
B:-------0-------0---|------1------1---
G:-------0-------0---|------0------0---
D:-------0-------0---|------2------2---
A:-------2-------2---|---3------3------
E:---3-------3-------|-----------------

In order to get the formatting so that the chords line up above the tablature in the correct place, your need to use a special HTML tag. HTML is the basic formatting language on the web. There is a tag that must be place before the example, and after. The tag that you are going use in this case is the "<pre>" tag. This is short for preformatted. That means that whatever is contained between the opening and closing "<pre>" tag will look exactly how you see it in the text entry window. So in order to have the chord line up correctly, you would need to place the opening tag "<pre>" before the example, and the closing tag "</pre> after the example. Do not enclose your entire article in a set of "pre" tags. Instead you will need to separate out each example individually.

<pre>
     G                   C
E:-------3-------3---|------0------0---
B:-------0-------0---|------1------1---
G:-------0-------0---|------0------0---
D:-------0-------0---|------2------2---
A:-------2-------2---|---3------3------
E:---3-------3-------|-----------------
</pre>

Other limited HTML tags are permitted. Again the basic formatting will be done automatically, so you do not need to have any knowledge of HTML. If you do have knowledge of HTML, do not use <p>, or <br> tags. These are automatically inserted when you press the "enter" button .

I have put together a few templates for tablature, chord and scale grids that you will find useful when writing your lesson. There is a link right above the text entry window on the next page. Below are a couple of examples of how you might use these templates.

Here is an example of a scale charts with fingerings indicated. Remember in order for the fret indicator to line up correctly you must use the <pre> tag. See above.

   A Minor Pentatonic

|--1--|-----|-----|--4--| -1st string
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--| -6th string
   |
  5th fret

You could also indicate scale functions like this.

   A Minor Pentatonic

|--1--|-----|-----|-b3--| -1st string
|--5--|-----|-----|-b7--|
|-b3--|-----|--4--|-----|
|-b7--|-----|--1--|-----|
|--4--|-----|--5--|-----|
|--1--|-----|-----|-b3--| -6th string
   |
  5th fret

Or the chord chart template could be used like this.

  G7
|||||*
|*||||
*|||||
||||||
320001 - fingering

Do not make any of your tablature examples longer than the text entry window. If you do need to have an example that is a little wider, use the <small> tag to slightly reduce the overall size of the tablature or scale chart example. Place <small> before the example, and </small> after the example. Split longer examples into multiple lines.

If you are having any problems at all, email me and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for your submission, and have fun.
