This first examples of chord conversion are going to be pretty straight forward. We are going to take an A major chord and convert it to an Am, A+ (augmented), Ao (diminished), Asus2, and Asus4 chord.

Converting A to Am

Converting A to Am is easy enough. An A chord is A(1), C#(3), and E(5). Just lower the C#(3) on the 2nd string down a half step to C(b3).

A

E||---|---|---|---| 5 -1st string
 ||---|-C#|---|---| 3
 ||---|-A-|---|---| 1
 ||---|-E-|---|---| 5
A||---|---|---|---| 1
X||---|---|---|---|   -6th string

A = 1, C# = 3, E = 5

Am

E||---|---|---|---| 5 -1st string
 ||-C-|---|---|---| b3
 ||---|-A-|---|---| 1
 ||---|-E-|---|---| 5
A||---|---|---|---| 1
X||---|---|---|---|   -6th string

A = 1, C = b3, E = 5
