There are many scales, and even more ways to play
those scales on the guitar. This reference is not meant to be
and all inclusive look at every possible way that you can play
a particular scale. Instead, each scale is represented by at least
2 different basic fingerings. One with the root on the 6th strings,
and one with the root on the 5th string. Knowing how to get the
most out of the scales for writing or improvisation
will also depend on your knowledge of music
theory.
Each scale page will also include the following
Scale formula - The scale formula is the
the notes in relationship to the major scale. For example if you
see "b3" in the scale formula, that note is a half step
(1 fret) lower than the 3rd note in a major scale.
Notes in a C "fill in the blank" scale
- These are the notes that are in the scale if the root is
C. Since a C major scale is C D E F G A B C, you will be
able to compare each of the scales to that.
