My name is "Dario Patrono" creator of "Guitar Tips for Kids" and today I will be teaching you - exactly how to hold a single Guitar note properly.
Sounds like the most simplest thing in the world to do - but if you're a young little Guitarist, picking up the Guitar for the first time - it can be the hardest thing ever.
It's BEST to learn everything the correct way right from the very start - otherwise you might pick up some bad habits - which can limit your Guitar playing later on.
So let's do it the right way first - sit on down and check out these great little secrets on how to hold your Guitar notes properly...
Step: 1 - Use your Fingertips . . .
To begin with - make sure you use the very tip of your finger to hold down each note.
Use Your Fingertips.
Step: 2 - Pressing down a note . . .
When pressing down a note - make sure you push down right behind each metal fret strip, just like the picture below.
This will take less preasure to hold and will produce a nice clear note - otherwise your note may rattle or not even come out at all.
Don't push down way too hard - just enough so the note can be clearly heard.
Right behind the Fret Strip.
Another important tip - is to keep your finger as vertical as possible and to only touch the string it is using.
Step: 3 - A Callous . . .
To begin with your (fret hand) finger tips will be quite fragile and tender.
If they start to hurt - stop playing and give them a little rest.
Don't injure them - because if you do, you won't be able to play your Guitar for ages - so take it nice and easy.
Your fingertips will eventually toughen up, forming a hard layer of skin known as a "callous."
This callous will protect your finger tips, making them as hard asROCKS.
Callous.
Step: 4 - Fingernail Length . . .
Another handy tip is to keep your fret hand "fingernails" nicely trimmed.
The shorter the better - just like the photo below.
It will improve your fret work movability and prevent BIG long ugly fingernails getting in the way when you play.
Fingernail Length.
Okie Dokie let's Re-Cap . . .

Now let's try practicing the musical alphabet...
A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
Click play and make sure you hold each note just like we've shown you above - using your fret hand index finger.
You can now hold a Guitar note properly and also play the musical alphabet too.
