7 Basic Open Position Guitar Chords

There are two different fingerings for the A chord. Both are going to be useful in different situations, but the one that bars the 4th, 3rd, and 2nd strings with your first finger should be the number one choice. (fig. 2) The reason being, that cramming 3 fingers into 1 fret is a little awkward. Bend back the first joint of your first finger just enough to deaden the 1st string. (fig. 3) When you do use 3 fingers, turn your hand to the side and you will find the chord a little easier. (fig.1)
